Catlin is only one of two communities in the county that maintains and enforces building and nuisance ordinances. Listed below is a summary only.
NUISANCE ORDINANCES

* All motor vehicles stored outside must have current license plates and be in an operable street legal condition.
* All vehicles, trailers, campers, etc parked on yard must not have vegetation growing around them in excess of eight inches.
* All properties shall be regularly maintained and free of grass and weeds in excess of 8".
* Bags of trash cannot be stored outside; they must be kept in cans with lids.
* Items not manufactured for continuous exterior use should not be permanently stored outside.

BUILDING INFORMATION

* A building permit is required prior to the start of any construction, repairs, alterations, etc of existing structures when the total cost will exceed $1,000.00

*Regardless of the cost of the project, permits are required for all of the following:
1. All roof replacements or layovers.
2. New construction of any kind on property within the village and within 1 1/2 miles of the village boundaries.
3. Fences, driveways, patios, swimming pools, decks, carports, yard barns, and garages.
* Permit applications can be obtained at the Village clerk's office for $5.00 or $10.00 depending on the scope of the work.
* All applications must be approved the Village board or Village Building Official prior to the start of the work.
BURNING WITHIN THE VILLAGE

* Burning items that have been naturally grown on your property is allowed within the village. This includes, grass, weeds, leaves, limbs, etc.
* No other items can be burnt within the village. For example no trash, garbage, building materials, etc.
* Approved burning is allowed between the hours of 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. or sundown. Fires should not be allowed to burn or smolder after dark.
* All burning must be attended by a responsible party at all times.
* A means of extinguishing the fire should be present at all times.
* The fire cannot create a safety hazard to roadways by means of volume of smoke generated.
* Burning should not create a health hazard or nuisance to neighbors.
* Burning is not allowed on roadways or sidewalks.
PETS

* All dogs are required to have annual village registration that can be obtained at the clerk's office for $2.00.
*All dogs are required to have a current village registration tag and rabies tag affixed to their collar at all times.
* Dogs are not allowed to run uncontrolled within the village limits.
* All dogs and cats are required by county ordinances to have annual rabies vaccinations that may be obtained through your vet.
Listed is just a brief summary of ordinance issues. A complete ordinance book is available for review at the Catlin Public library or the Village Clerk's office. SWIMMING POOLS

* Installation of swimming pools greater than 12" in depth require an approved building permit prior to installation.
* All wading or swimming pools 12" more in depth but less than "42 in depth, and in-ground pools shall have a sufficeint fence or other enclosure to protect against unauthorized access.
* Above ground pools more than 42" in depth not protected by a sufficient fence must have a removable or locking ladder to protect against unauthorized access.
